APC aspirants ask Buhari to pass vote of confidence on Buni-led committee.
Some aspirants in the upcoming All Progressives Congress(APC) convention have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to pass vote of confidence on the Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
The aspirants under the auspices of APC Aspirants Forum made the call in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.
The letter, signed by an aspirant vying for position of National Youth Leader, Maxwell Gowon, on behalf of other aspirants, said the committee was capable of delivering on its mandate.
Gowon stated that the forum was reacting to an open letter by some persons discrediting the CEPCP.
The group urged Buhari to pass a vote of confidence on the CEPCP’s ability to organise the National Convention that will usher in a new dawn for the APC.
He said the expression of confidence in the committee would re-assure members that APC was a party of rule of law and internal democracy.
On concern raised about the conduct of the APC election scheduled for Feb. 26, the group said the Buni led convention committee had not done anything to suggest that the aspirants would lose confidence in the process.
“The Forum of APC Aspirants for 2022 National Convention writes to intimate Your Excellency on the true state of affairs with the National Convention of our great part, the APC.
“We had initially decided against burdening Mr President with the humdrum of the party’s working in the belief that the APC has enough statements in its fold to resolve ongoing issues while allowing Your Excellency to pilot the affairs of Nigeria.
The aspirants stated that those behind the letter were working against the success of the convention, while creating the impression that they meant well for the party.
They added that some of those causing confusion in the party, had the opportunity while piloting affairs of the party to leverage on their position to appeal to APC governors to respect party democracy.
