June 12 protest: Police beef up security, warn against protest.
The Police Command in Osun State, has put adequate security in place to ensure that the Democracy Day, also known as `June 12’, is celebrated peacefully.
SP Yemisi Opalola, the state Police Public Relations officer in a statement in Osogbo on Friday, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, had put adequate security templates in place across the state.
Opalola noted that the commissioner of police warned against unnecessary protest and procession.
She said: “The commissioner of police is assuring the good people of Osun of the readiness of the state command and other sister security agencies to guarantee safety of lives and property in all parts of the state during this period and beyond.
“There will be adequate visibility policing and constant vehicular patrols.
“The commissioner of police appeals to members of the public to cooperate and collaborate with the security personnel detailed for this special assignment and other vehicles on patrol duties put in place to curb crime and criminality.
“He also enjoined members of the public to conduct and comport themselves within the ambit of the law and jettison all forms of rumour of insecurity being peddled around.
“He said that the police, in synergy with other security agents, are ready and capable of dealing decisively with any act of criminality that might arise.
“He advised parents and guardians to warn their wards against any unnecessary protest and procession in the state that could cause a breakdown of law and order, as the command would not tolerate any act of lawlessness.’’
