Ukraine urges Russia to stop fighting near nuclear plant, warns of great consequences.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has urged Russia to cease firing near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.
“The Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
“Fire has already broken out; if it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chernobyl.
“Russians must immediately cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone,” Kuleba tweeted.
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine on April 26, 1986, remains one of the world’s worst nuclear energy disasters.
After the explosion of a reactor block at the nuclear power plant, radioactive substances spread over large parts of Europe for several days.
