Why Lagos government sealed night clubs, lounges.
The Lagos State Government has clamped down on defaulting lounges and night clubs over safety violations, Mr Lanre Mojola, Director General/CEO, Lagos Safety Commission (LSC), said on Tuesday.
Mojola, in a statement, said that the measure was part of the ongoing 2022 Zero Accident Campaign (ZAC), to protect Lagos residents.
Mojola said that some facilities within Lekki and Victoria Island were sealed at the weekend because owners showed flagrant disregard to regulations.
“Some of the facilities at Lekki and Victoria Island were sealed due to lack of fire extinguishers, clear marked exit routes with appropriate safety signages, food safety concerns, poor hygiene and housekeeping.
” Other safety infractions identified include the non-regularisation of their safety compliance and failure to register with the commission through its www.lasgsafetyreg.com portal.
” The enforcement exercises will continue regularly until such facilities comply. Owners and operators must seek a safety-first policy and value lives,” Mojola said.
He advised stakeholders to adopt best practices above monetary gains to preserve their businesses and enhance the well-being of their staff and visiting members of the public.
According to him, “the Zero Accident Campaign aims to drastically reduce accidents that can result in injury, fatalities, property damage leading to lawsuits, reputational damage and compensation”.
He said that the commission had also commenced its regular engagement, training and sensitisation sessions with stakeholders across socio-economic domains, and would continue to spread the message of safety first to protect and preserve lives.
